The following table of contents is arranged by chapters, but Matthew's Gospel as originally written and circulated in the first century churches had no chapter or verse divisions. It did not even have paragraphs or punctuation. And it was entirely in Greek capitals with no spaces between words.

That means that these chapter titles are in no way intended to give an analysis of how the writer organized his book. Similarly within each chapter the subject headings merely pick up one of the main ideas for convenient reference. Ideally we should try to read the Gospel straight through as the author wrote it, and let is speak to us without our artificial divisions.

For some sermons on this Gospel, see sermons from Matthew's Gospel.
